Patrick Swayze, star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost, has lost his two year battle with pancreatic cancer.

He died at his home with his family by his side. RIP, Patrick.

Patrick Swayze, who has been courageously battling cancer, got quite a shock when he had routine checkup. Doctors discovered that the star of Dirty Dancing and The Beast has suffered a heart attack.

Doctors theorize that the medications the actor is taking to preserve his life may have contributed to the cardiovascular issues. Now, he needs to decide whether to take the chance of a recurrence and continuing with the cancer treatments or to stop them to try to keep his heart healthy. Not a good situation to be in.

Patrick Swayze has been hospitalized due to pneumonia. He was unable to attend a press event for the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles scheduled for today.

“As we arrived here this morning we have some news,” said A&E president Abbe Raven. “Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today’s panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery.” 

Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi, his wife of 33 years, have renewed their wedding vows. Swayze, 56, who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and Niemi went with a Prince Charming and Snow White theme. Patrick even arrived on a white horse.

He knows he is living on borrowed time, and revealed to Barbara Walters that he isn’t likely to live longer than two years. Swayze is still hoping for a miracle, though:

“I keep my heart, soul and spirit open to miracles. I pray. I keep dreaming of a future, a future with a long and healthy life. Not lived in the shadow of cancer, but in the light.” Let’s hope so, too.

After a turbulent year, Britney Spears is back on top….of USA Today’s Celebrity Heat Index. Britney was exposed, so to speak, more than anyone else in the media for 11 weeks. Angelina Jolie came in at No. 2, Jennifer Aniston was third, and Brad Pitt was in fourth place.

Readers wanted to see more stories about Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Swayze, while Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith dropped out of the Top 10.

The set of Patrick Swayze’s new series, The Beast, was shut down when the star collapsed and was off work for four days. The good news is that his illness was due to a fever, not a worsening of his pancreatic cancer, but producers and crew are aware that at some point the shoe will drop and Swayze will no longer be available to work on the USA network series.

Hopefully, that time is still a ways off. The show’s producers must have felt that Swayze was worth taking a chance on, when they could just as easily have cast someone else in his role.

Patrick Swayze released a statement regarding the treatment he’s undergoing for his pancreatic cancer.

“I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well,” Patrick told People.com. “Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves. This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa’s birthday, where I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and were able to find her something really special and much deserved.”

Patrick also took in a Lakers game too. Hey basketball and bling? Can’t be all that bad!

According to a report at MSNBC, Patrick Swayze learned he had pancreatic cancer five weeks ago and began a four week treatment cycle of chemotherapy. "He noticed that he had lost some weight and was looking a little jaundiced so he decided to go and get himself checked out," Galina Espinoza, senior editor at People said.

To cut off the blood supply to the tumor Patrick is taking the experimental drug, Vatalanib. He’s also indulging in a high fat diet to keep his weight up. (Unfortunately, I’m on the same diet.)

Patick’s brother Don hails him as an unflappable warrior and lashed out again reports that Patrick only has five weeks to live.

"He didn’t deserve that," Don said.

"There have been a lot of rumors swirling that Swayze had lost all of his hair, that he had gotten really gaunt. None of this, says his brother Don, is true," Espinoza said.

"He’s incredibly optimistic. He’s fighting this with everything that he’s got and through it all he has his wife, Lisa, by his side."
