Michael Phelps has been suspended by USA Swimming for three months after photos of the 2008 Summer Olympic gold medalist using a bong to smoke marijuana were released. USA Swimming released this statement:

 This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so may people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero.

Phelps financial support has also been pulled for the duration of his suspension. Kellogg’s has announced that the company will not be renewing its contract with the swimmer, stating that his behavior is not “consistent with the  image of Kellogg.”

Hope the high was worth it.

For a few weeks every 4 years, an elite group of athletes are given the chance to become celebrities.   Some rise to the challenge.  Others fail.   Some are over-hyped, and some come out of nowhere.

At Glamorati, we celebrate the the Summer Olympics as the unique event it is.  A time for the President of the United States to stand between two half-naked women (volleyball players) with his arms around them, sweat pouring down his back.     A time for Russia to start a war with Georgia while the rest of the world looks away at Beijing.   A time where ping pong is bigger than Paris Hilton.
