Michael Phelps Suspended by USA Swimming After Admitting to Marijuana Use
Michael Phelps has been suspended by USA Swimming for three months after photos of the 2008 Summer Olympic gold medalist using a bong to smoke marijuana were released. USA Swimming released this statement:
This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so may people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero.
Phelps financial support has also been pulled for the duration of his suspension. Kellogg’s has announced that the company will not be renewing its contract with the swimmer, stating that his behavior is not “consistent with the image of Kellogg.”
