I think Crowe’s Cinderella Man request had to do with him not wanting anything — and I mean ANYTHING–to do with the actors playing his opponents –most notably Craig Bierko as Max Schmelling. Bierko alluded to such in a L.A. Times piece.
If that is what it took Crowe to get into the role then I applaud him. It is a great performance and a great movie.
