I’m a fan of Bryan Ferry, former lead singer for Brit band Roxy Music, and learned he turned down:

1. The role John Lithgow plays in Cliffhanger with Sly Stallone and

2. The song “Don’t You ( Forget About Me)” sung by Simple Minds, and lead song for the movie “The Breakfast Club.”

Rick Springfield turned down the role of Goose in “Top Gun,” which made Anthony Edwards a star. “Hard to Hold” tanked. Good choice, huh?

Wow…

After reading both lists, I’m really glad some of these people didn’t take the roles…but I’m wondering…what was anyone thinking in trying to cast them anyway? I love John Cusack…but as Batman in the new franchise? That would have been terrible!

And there were some pokes at Reeves ending up being Neo…personally, I don’t think any of the other actors would have looked right for the part. Leo in a role like that? Uh, no. They’re all great actors, but not for a movie like The Matrix. And that’s not a dig at the movie, which I happen to like reasonably well. And it did alright at the box office, so apparently plenty of people felt the same.
